The Weeknd Becomes Part Owner and Global Ambassador for Canadian Egames Company

He has joined OverActive Media Group

Toronto crooner the Weeknd has become a part owner and the global ambassador for Canadian egames company OverActive Media Group.
 
The singer born Abel Tesfaye joins an ownership team whose primary investors are the likes of the Kimel family (including Pittsburgh Penguins owner Michael Kimel) and tech entrepreneur Sheldon Pollock.
 
OverActive Media Group owns the Toronto Defiant, a team in the Overwatch League, as well as teams in the League of Legends European Championship, Call of Duty World League, Rocket League, StarCraft and Smite. It also owns American egames organization Splyce.
 
"As a big esports fan, I am really excited to be involved in this project," Tesfaye said in a statement. "I am looking forward to collaborating with OverActive Media in unique and innovative ways."
