The Strumbellas' Liberal Party Campaign Song Doesn't Make Much Sense in French

The party are planning to re-record the song

The Strumbellas have joined forces with Justin Trudeau and his Liberals, providing the incumbent political party with their Rattlesnake song "One Hand Up" for this fall's federal campaign.

Unfortunately, the tune isn't resonating too well with French-speaking Canadians because the translated version makes absolutely no sense.

As CBC points out, the English version of the chorus is: "We can hold one hand up for tomorrow. We can hold one hand up to the stars."

The French translation reads: "On lève une main haute pour demain. On lève une main haute aux étoiles."

But upon listening, many French speakers hear "enlève une main" rather than "on lève une main" — which means, "Remove one hand."

The Liberals unveiled the song on social media yesterday (September 15), and plenty of people have already voiced their confusion with the tune. In fact, the Liberals are already planning to have the song re-recorded to avoid the misheard lyrics.

The party told CBC that the original translation was done by the band.
