The Strokes' Nick Valensi Unveils New CRX Project

Following the Strokes' recent Future Present Past EP, guitarist Nick Valensi has announced plans to push forward outside of his long-running group with a new side-project called CRX.

News of the group arrived yesterday (August 1), when they launched a website and a handful of social media profiles. The lineup consists of Valensi, Guards/Willowz member Richie James Follin, Darian Zahedi, Dose drummer Ralph Alexander, and the Reflections' Jon Safley.

While the group have yet to share any music, the arrival of CRX marks the first formal outside project from Valensi since co-founding the Strokes in 1998. Over the years, though, he's performed on albums by Devendra Banhart, Sia and Regina Spektor.

Other Strokes-related projects over the years include Julian Casablancas' solo material and more recent work with the Voidz, Albert Hammond Jr.'s series of solo LPs, bassist Nikolai Fraiture's pseudo-eponymous Nickel Eye project, and drummer Fabrizio Moretti's Little Joy. Valensi contributed guitar to the latter's 2008 self-titled debut.
