Elliott Smith fans were rightfully pissed when, in 2016, the hip Silver Lake eatery Bar Angeles cut a massive hole through the iconic Figure 8 mural to make room for their bar's window. To make matters worse, it turns out the defacement was all for nought anyway, because the bar is now shutting down.
As Eater LA reports, Bar Angeles is going to be transformed into a new Filipino restaurant called Ma'am Sir. The spot will open in early June.
For now, it's not entirely clear whether or not the new eatery will maintain the external mural (and its accompanying interior piece). That said, how often to new restaurants maintain the exact same decor as the places that were there before?
In other words, it looks like we have to say goodbye to the Elliott Smith mural yet again.
