The National release their long-awaited new album Sleep Well Beast today (September 8), and a new VR doc is giving fans a 360-degree behind-the-scenes look at the making of the record.

Dubbed Something Out of Nothing, the short film arrives courtesy of the New York Times, and can be viewed as a 360-degree video on desktop over here, or as a totally immersive experience in the Times' VR app on Oculus.

It features footage from the band's recording sessions at their new studio in upstate New York, as well as live performance footage from a show in Copenhagen. It was directed by Marshall Curry.
