The Flaming Lips' Record Store Day "Exclusive" Is Already Getting a Wide Release

'King's Mouth' is coming out again because apparently 4,000 copies weren't enough for us

If you thought you were special for grabbing a copy of the Flaming Lips' Record Store Day "exclusive" King's Mouth, you may want to brace yourself. Like is often the case with RSD, that limited and so-called exclusive is already getting a wide release.

Already, 4,000 vinyl copies of King's Mouth were pressed for Record Store Day this past weekend, but apparently that isn't enough for this environmentally challenged planet. So on July 19, King's Mouth will get a wide release digitally, on CD and again on vinyl through Warner Bros.

Of course, this sort of tactic is nothing new when it comes to Record Store Day. One of many unfortunate examples includes the Cure's Mixed Up and Greatest Hits, both of which arrived as "exclusives" only to quickly then get wide releases just days after RSD. And these are just two examples of many.

On the other hand, if you don't feel like waiting until July 19 to grab a vinyl copy of King's Mouth, they are about $40 over on Discogs right now, and chances are more than a few IRL shops are still sitting on unsold copies in their permanent "Record Store Day" sections.
