The Dirty Nil Share "Done with Drugs" Video

Hamilton rock troupe turned quarantine roommates, the Dirty Nil, have shared a new video for their song "Done with Drugs."

The track is a sardonic take on the tendency to announce sobriety and abstinence from certain vices via social media, mocking a trend that the band's Luke Bentham says is "narcissistic."

He explained further:

I see a lot of people who are trying to stop doing cocaine or stop drinking rivers of liquor, or stop eating lots of shitty fast food. On Facebook, I see these posts from people declaring, "I'm done with this!" — they'll have a six-paragraph post about how they're changing their lives. I'm definitely not against self-betterment, and I'm not trying to make light of anyone's struggle; I'm just kind of amused and fascinated by that whole aspect of social media. Like someone will post, "I'm done drinking coffee!" Okay, well then just stop drinking coffee — you don't have to try to stop the internet for the day to tell everybody that you're done with Maxwell House!

The visual effort arrives today via directors Mitch Barnes and Victor Malang, who shot the band's energetic performance inside a warehouse with the help of a drone camera.

"This video captures the mayhem and spirit of our band in a special way," Bentham said of the clip.

The Dirty Nil last released an album in 2018 with Master Volume, after winning their first Juno for Breakthrough Group of the Year in 2017.
