Following its previous edition, the battle of the bands competition "The Bout" will be returning to Toronto venue the Hideout. So if you've been looking for your big break, registration is now once again open.

To refresh your memory, here's what it's all about:

The Bout @ The Hideout is an annual competition designed to bring together talented local musicians, generate support and awareness for live music in Toronto and, most importantly, provide an awesome welcoming atmosphere for artists to come and showcase their music… And, this year we have doubled the prize money!

For this year's edition, this means $20,000 will be paid out in cash prizes to the winners, with $12,000 going to 1st place. The winning act will also get recording time at Trouble Town Records.

Registration closes on November 30, and you can learn more how to apply here. Return contenders are also welcome. Entry fee is $60.

Once registration is closed on November 30, 150 artists will be chosen from the applicants. They will then play sets at the Hideout every Friday and Saturday over 15 weeks, from January 18 to April 27.

Fans can log onto the competition's website to vote for their favourite band. The top six bands will then return for the finals weekend, and the schedule will be released on December 15.

UPDATE (11/19, 12:30 p.m. EST): Organizers have now announced the Bout 2019 will now be waiving all registration fees thanks to a sponsorship from Molson Coors, Lagunitas and Miller Genuine Draft. This means it's now free to sign up. Furthermore, the Herve Basset Foundation is now offering a grant of $5,000 to the winner, on top of the grand prize of $12,000 and recording time with Trouble Town records. There will also now be a series of free panels during the Bout Music Festival and Competition, while organizers have revamped the online voting system.
