Four years removed from getting X'ed Out on their sophomore LP, Tera Melos have announced a follow-up effort. Titled Trash Generator, the math rock outfit's latest effort arrives August 25 through Sargent House.

Twelve tracks in length, Trash Generator is said to find the band recharged and renewed following a four-year break. A short holiday break following a wealth of touring in support of X'ed Out ended up turning into a two-year period in which guitarist/vocalist Nick Reinhart, bassist Nathan Latona and drummer John Clardy all pursued different projects.

"We toured consistently for 19 months after X'ed Out was released in 2013," Latona explained in a statement. "We did two full U.S. headliners, four full U.S. support tours, a Japanese tour, a month in Europe, and a run of shows in the UK and Ireland. When we finished, we were pretty exhausted and frustrated. I found myself at ease with the idea of not worrying about ticket sales, strategic tours, units moved, likes, clicks, views, and the short-fused moodiness of living in a van with two other people."

The press release notes that with Trash Generator, Tera Melos have "fully metabolized their pop tendencies and found a way they can coexist with the band's iconoclast origins."

A first taste of what that sounds like can be heard below with "Don't Say I Know." The band have also mapped out a fall tour in support of the disc alongside Speedy Ortiz, which features Canadian dates in Toronto and Montreal.

"Making a new record seemed like a fun act of defiance," Latona said. "The odds are against bands like us, but despite all the negativity involved in trying to struggle and survive as an artist, we made Trash Generator because we just wanted to get together, have some fun, and make something that we think is cool."
