Tenacious D's Cover of Chris Isaak's "Wicked Game" Is, Well, Wicked

Sure, we've heard Chris Isaak record his smouldering smash hit "Wicked Game" as a duet with Céline Dion, but does that version hold a candle to a duet version from Tenacious D?

When it comes to such a recording — done by the duo of Jack Black and Kyle Gass for SiriusXM — we're more surprised at how faithful the D's version actually is.

The cover, which you can view below, serves to remind us all that the duo's humour can at times keep the attention away from their serious musical chops. Gass nails every guitar bend and accent crucial to the tension of the original, and for all the additional vocalizing he could do in a funnier punch-up, Black takes a straightforward approach with his singing talents.

For Tenacious D, any and all funny business was clearly reserved for a Beatles medley from the same SiriusXM session, which you can also find below. The duo last delivered Post-Apocalypto in 2018, an LP that arrived alongside an accompanying animated series.

Guitarist James Calvin Wilsey, who played the iconic lead part on Isaak's hit, died in 2018.
