Published Jan 17, 2014From the dreary and ungodly land known as Arizona emerges a dark and oppressive sonic entity known as Tempel. An instrumental duo, their debut release On the Steps of the Temple is composed of crushing doom metal riffs and rampaging drums. While instrumental metal bands are becoming more and more popular, Tempel ignores the technical aspects and music theory doctrine applied to the growing trend, remaining true to the heavy nature of doom metal.
Adhering to the simple structure of that genre leads to some repetitive segment, but frequent interruptions with aggressive riffs, haunting solos and atmospheric melodies maintain the album's momentum. While the music is without lyrics, the record feels as if there is some overlying concept to its creation, as if some greater theme lies at the heart of the album. (Prosthetic Records)
