Teen Wheat

vs. Old Wheat

BY Liz WorthPublished Oct 1, 2004

Teen Wheat make some seriously wonderful noise and a huge impact with their debut album. This band doesn’t really seem to make any major build ups or breakdowns in any of their songs — they get right into it from the start, getting at the very best part and keeping it there the whole time. Though there doesn’t seem to be anything complex behind their music, Teen Wheat have an energy that seeps out of all the distortion they play through. Forget deciphering lyrics, because they come out fast and fighting in a thick atmosphere of sound, but there’s a distinct power pop feel behind it all. Having only been together since 2003, this Atlanta band has definitely found a style that is both endearing and dissonant. If more bands were willing to make as much noise as these kids do, music would be a lot less boring.
