Whale Bones and Tin Foil is the debut EP from post-Bird Eater project Team Dead. The Salt Lake City, UT band features guitarist Chris Clement (ex-Gaza, Bird Eater, Day of Less, Pilot This Plane Down), vocalist Sean Miller (Day of Less, Pilot This Plane Down), bassist Jason Weidauer (Pilot This Plane Down) and drummer Matt Wigham (Pilot This Plane Down). Whale Bones and Tin Foil is a 23-minute whirlwind of sludgy hardcore/mathcore, bursting straight out of the gate with fast-paced opener "Malarkey."
Crushing rhythms and down-tuned dissonance characterize "Marvin Knowshisgun," while "Visions" is filled with heavy grooves, angular guitar work and a dark, ominous atmosphere. Discordant tones, crashing drums, a hefty low-end and angst-ridden, throat-shredding vocals continue throughout "Melon Baller," "Defense Wins Games" and "In Lead," while "Let's Get Fancy" finishes the EP with a wave of feedback. Featuring weird yet beautiful artwork by Pierre Schmidt to match Team Dead's jarring sound, Whale Bones and Tin Foil is an absolute stunner.
