Tara Jane O'Neil

Peregrine

BY James KeastPublished Feb 1, 2000

Having toiled in such influential indie rock bands as Rodan, the Sonora Pine and Retsin, New Yorker Tara Jane O’Neil locked herself in her studio apartment, borrowed some friends’ instruments and then some friends to assist in Peregrine, her solo debut. And though it doesn’t stray far from her previous work, it is suffused with the sense of discovery — of new instruments, of recording techniques, of her own voice as a singer and songwriter. It’s a beautiful journey well worth taking, intimate and poignant and lovely.
