Tame Impala Threatened with Lawsuit over "Eventually" Drum Sound

Australian psych-pop stalwarts Tame Impala continue to dominate airwaves with their recent Currents LP, but the album's "Eventually" is now drawing some negative attention over an alleged drum sample.

Samm Culley is a member of the '70s funk act Skull Snaps, whose "It's a New Day" has been sampled over and over again by the likes of Common, ODB and many others. Now, Culley is claiming that Tame Impala lifted the drum sound for their Currents single.

Tame Impala's Kevin Parker posted a legal email from Culley on Instagram (viewable below). The email alleges that he swiped the Skull Snaps drum sound without permission, and claims that Culley had his suspicions confirmed by a musicologist.

Parker replied by saying, "WOW unexpected compliment! The creator of the famous Skull Snaps drum sample thinks my drums IS his actual sample and wants to sue me for not clearing it! Haha!! Sam Culley you have 3 days to fire your musicologist."

Listen to both songs below and decide who's right.
