Tame Impala Offshoot Pond Prepare for 'The Weather' LP, Unveil New Video

BY Sarah MurphyPublished Jan 25, 2017

Pond finds current Tame Impala synth and guitar guy Jay Watson working with the band's former multi-instrumentalist Nick Allbrook, and they've just revealed plans for Pond's next full-length. The Weather is due out on May 5 through Marathon Artists.

Pond enlisted Tame Impala frontman and pal Kevin Parker to produce the new record, and it arrives as a loose concept album about "all the weird contradictory things that make up a lot of colonial cities around the world" — including, but not limited to, inspiration drawn from his Australian hometown of Perth.

Allbrook further explained that idea in a statement, which reads [via Pitchfork]:

Laying out all the dark things underneath the shimmering exterior of cranes, development, money and white privilege. It's not our place, but it is our place. British, but Australian, but not REAL Australian. On the edge of the world with a hell of a lot of fucked things defining our little city, still we try and live a wholesome respectful life, while being inherently disrespectful. At the end of all this confusion in our weird little white antipodean world, there's the beach, purity and nature that brings us all together.

The Weather is available for pre-order now over here, where you can peruse options that include CD, vinyl, signed copies, and even some bundles that come with Pond-branded tea towels.
