"Palookas"

With his long-anticipated new solo album Gutter Rainbows set to drop this January as a digital-only release, we're gearing up for Talib Kweli to dominate our hip-hop playlists. To whet our appetites, a new Kweli joint called "Palookas" has hit the Web.

According to the Rappers I Know blog, the beat for "Palookas" was intended to appear on an upcoming album from it's creator Marco Polo, but with a different rapper on top of it. Instead, Kweli allegedly leaked this version. The beat is definitely the strongest part of the song, which Kweli rightly describes as sounding like "one of those TV shows from the '60s."

Kweli himself is on point on the track, having some fun with some old-fashioned bragging in place of his often heavy-handed politics. Building a chorus on the phrase "You ain't got a verse better than my worst one," Kweli is convincing and reminds us of his talent on the brief track.
