Published Jul 29, 2014Canadian singer-songwriter T. Nile is a genre-bending chanteuse, mixing disparate elements of West Coast folk rock, straight-ahead country music and modern-day EDM to create a palatable mix of acoustic-based pop music. Nowhere is this more evident than on her new full-length, Tingle & Spark. The album won't see its official release until August 5. In the meantime, tide yourself over by streaming the record in full on Exclaim.ca.
Teaming up with Matt Rogers of bluesy BC act the Harpoonist & the Axe Murderer to produce the album, the record finds their eclectic ears striving for even weirder combinations of folk and electronica in comparison to her previous two recordings, 2006's At My Table and her 2009 EP The Cabin Song.
Inspired by the likes of Siouxsie & the Banshees, Fleetwood Mac, the Knife and Lauryn Hill, Tingle & Spark offers listeners ample servings of slow-burning synth-laden pop ("No Lines"), classic country (album opener "Shaky Throne"), electronic minimalism ("Ryder") and soulful grooves (standout track "Burn It") that perfectly emphasize T. Nile's expressive and eclectic artistic vision.
