T-Pain, Tom Waits and Robert Smith Pick the Cansecos For Best Electronic/Dance Song in ISC Competition
Electro pop makers the Cansecos have taken top honours in one of the most celebrated songwriting competitions around.

The Toronto, ON group's "Raised By Wolves," from 2007's Juices!, has won the award for the best electronic/dance song of 2008 in the International Songwriting Competition, beating out over 15,500 submissions from amateur and professional songwriters in over 100 countries.

The song, penned by Cansecos' Bill Halliday and Gareth Jones, was chosen by a panel of judges that included such high-profile celebs as Tom Waits, Black Francis, Robert Smith, Ray Davies and T-Pain.

In the competition's various categories, the judges named just 62 different winners, who will take home more than $150,000 in cash and prizes. And while the Cansecos have yet to hear if they are getting a cheque or goodies, they have indicated in an online post what they hope to receive.

"We are honoured," says the band on their website. "Thank you ISC and thank you T-Pain. If you think our prize should be a collaboration with T-Pain please know that you're not alone in thinking so."
