Syrup

Syrup

BY Keith CarmanPublished Jun 20, 2007

Praise from the likes of Nashville Pussy, the Butthole Surfers and Hank Williams III is hard to come by. Road worn and weary, they’ve had their fair share of shitty openers over the years, so it’s tough to impress them. Boogie rockers Syrup are recipients of such compliments though, all of which are entirely deserved. Raunchy, sleazy and a million other dirty adjectives that really mean "fun,” this eponymous debut features four guys who are bona fide hillbilly rockers belting out upbeat, inspired Southern rock swagger in a ZZ Top blues-tinted manner. Despite being completed in 2000 and only garnering interest on underground trading levels, the disc is decidedly current, coming across as a more laidback cousin to their higher-profile champions.
