Published Mar 06, 2012Four years ago, Canadian imprint White Whale Records revealed it would be releasing a seven-inch hosting a cover of Wolf Parade's "Shine a Light" as performed by Swervedriver frontman Adam Franklin, with Wolf Parade's Dan Boeckner returning the favour by tackling a Swervedriver song with his Handsome Furs project. Regretfully, the record never arrived, but the label has now announced that the Franklin track has been salvaged and will be pressed on wax this spring, just in time for a Swervedriver tour.
Franklin's "Shine a Light" will now be featured on the A-side of a "uber-limited-edition" seven-inch, but unfortunately Boeckner will not appear on the flip. Instead, Franklin will provide a cover of the Clientele's "Elm Grove Window," off the UK group's self-released It's Art Dad record from 2005.
For a taste of what's in store, you can stream both tracks down below.
The record, which comes out March 27, is being pressed in a limited run of 250 copies on clear vinyl, so you may want to act fast and pre-order the platter here.
Swervedriver will be bring some copies on their upcoming U.S. tour, though, so if you're up for a road trip and have some extra cash on hand, you might be able to snag one at one of those dates. You can see the schedule down below.
As for that Handsome Furs track, the label has no idea if it will ever pop up. "Handsome Furs got real busy. Then Wolf Parade got real busy," reads a statement. "There was talk of them having recorded a dance version of "Sandblasted." Long story short, they never handed in the track! Who knows if it will ever surface...?"
