Swell Season's Marketa Irglova Returns with 'Muna'

Swell Season's Marketa Irglova Returns with 'Muna'
It's been close to three years since Marketa Irglova delivered her solo debut, Anar, but the Swell Season singer has announced she's just about due to make her return. The artist's sophomore set Muna will hit stores September 23 through Anti-.

A press release notes that Irglova's second full-length offering was written over the course of a year, with the 11-song cycle tracked over a six-month period in Iceland with producer Sturla Mio Thorisson. Apparently the creative experience was a good one, as Irglova now resides in the Scandinavian country.

As for the musicianship, Muna features 27 additional performers, from string sections and choirs, to Iranian vocalist Aida Shahghasemi and Irglova's sister Zuzi. The album's lyrical theme is said to "take solace from the smallness of individual concerns when contrasted with the scale of the universe," while the project also took influence from Jesus Christ Superstar and writer Neale Donald Walsch's Conversations With God.

"I believe God speaks through us in many ways, beginning with simple acts of kindness and ending with pieces of art that inspire millions for generations," Irglova said in a statement of the spiritual set. "All that matters is to try and get in touch with that part of ourselves and trust that which comes forth. I tried to that with this record."

Muna's gentle first single "This Right Here" can be streamed down below, where you'll also find info on an upcoming North American fall tour.
