Sweet Trip

Alura

BY Christopher WatersPublished Dec 1, 1999

San Francisco-based ambient pop band Sweet Trip adds bits of Miami Bass into the mix on its latest release, Alura. The title track is a nine minute-plus trance number that stays on the sunny side of the street. It’s a mess of buoyant beeps, bleats and gurgles. "Palomar, Your Shadow is the Yellow Sun" is similarly weightless as stutter-step beats float into the mix and disappear as gracefully as they arrived. Boasting one of the band’s best grooves to date, the ethereal carnival of "Serniga" builds to a throbbing crescendo. Pillowy instrumental "Kate," a nice bonus track, rounds out this 30 minute-plus EP, which is a great entry point into the tranquil ambient adventures of Sweet Trip.
