Sweet Magic London Ropes in Jerusalem in My Heart, Matana Roberts, Esmerine for Micro-Festival

London, ON show promoters Sweet Magic London will be hosting a micro-festival this weekend that will bring out international talent, as well as a couple of current players from the Constellation Records roster.

To be held in London's "Old East" neighbourhood, Sweet Magic London is described as being "more like an art project/installation rather than a festival." This Friday (August 6), the bill at the city's Street Rear B will feature sets from German post-jazz combo Jealousy Mountain Duo and DD/MM/YYYY offshoot Rotzig.

The following night at the Aeolian Hall is a co-presentation between the festival and Constellation Records that is headlined by Montreal-based, Arabic-influenced multimedia performance collective Jerusalem in My Heart, and also features sets from eight-piece chamber ensemble Esmerine and American saxophonist/composer Matana Roberts. All three will have released LPs through Constellation by the end of the year, with Roberts's COIN COIN Chapter Two: Mississippi Moonchile due October 1.

A press release notes that Toronto-based visual artists Tomas Del Balso and David Waldman are exhibiting drawings, prints and photography, while the evenings will also explore "the notions of collaboration, community, urban renewal, money, travel, and the living past."

An as-yet-undetailed three-day event is scheduled for later this month and will apparently feature "installations from local/regional contemporary visual artists and music from London, Sarnia, Hamilton, Toronto, Paris, New York City, and New Zealand."
