Sweet Cobra

Earth

Chicago's Sweet Cobra haven't put out a record since their 2010 release Mercy, so to say that Earth has been anxiously awaited is a bit of an understatement. For the most part, the wait has been worth it; every song on the record is refreshing and unique, and they all tell a separate story. The album also has something for everyone: "Sunburned Suns" is heavy and groovy, with an emphasis on the jammy and ephemeral; "Flight Risk" is psychedelic and unfocused, in the best way; the incredibly catchy and layered "Future Ghosts" stands out as the strongest song on the record.

Yes, it sounds a fair bit like Queens of the Stone Age, but they manage to sound just unique enough that they evoke the legends more than they crib from them. At the sweet spot where post-hardcore, stoner-doom and rock'n'roll meet, Sweet Cobra are waiting to take you back to Earth.
