Published Oct 20, 2014While clocking in over the two-hour mark, post-rock unit Swans apparently have a handful of leftovers from the sessions that produced their hypnotic and monolithic 2014 LP, To Be Kind. A smattering of alternate takes of the set's "Oxygen" will now be released on a digital EP of the same name on November 24 via Mute.
The four-song effort kicks off with a truncated version of the kinetic, brass-blasting dance track, edited down from its original eight-minute run time to a trimmer three minutes by Mute founder Daniel Miller. You can stream said edit down below.
Also cropping up on the curt collection are a live version recorded at Barcelona's Primavera festival this year, an earlier studio version of the number, and a stripped-down acoustic take. You'll find the full tracklisting below as well.
The digital-only release isn't the only upcoming offering from Swans. As previously reported, the group's 1983 debut full-length Filth receives a new vinyl pressing through band leader Michael Gira's own Young God Records on October 28. Last put to wax in 1990, the early LP is described as showcasing "slabs of sound, rhythm and screaming/testifying."
