Suuns and Jerusalem In My Heart, Death Grips and Luminato Lead This Week's Can't Miss Concerts

As June comes to an end, the hottest days — and events — of the summer are approaching. From loaded rock lineups to experimental art festivals, there is a lot to experience in Canada's music scene from June 18 to 24. Agalloch

Portland progressive metal outfit Agalloch are bringing the "Serpens in Culmination" tour to BC this week. They will be playing songs from their 2014 LP The Serpent and the Sphere, and early legs of the tour suggest that they'll resurrect classics from as far back as their sophomore album The Mantle. Agalloch have also enlisted L.A.'s experimental doom cellist Helen Money to initiate the evening's ceremonies. Prepare for a gloomy night on the West coast.

Amnesia Rock Fest

System of a Down, Linkin Park, the Offspring, Slayer and Pixies are among the giants headlining Amnesia Rockfest. Although these acts alone offer plenty of reason to attend, the festival will also feature Rob Zombie, Sublime with Rome, Rancid, Bad Religion, Refused, Ministry, Atreyu, Hatebreed, Propagandhi, Descendents and more. With a lineup of this size and notoriety, the event has earned the title of Canada's largest rock festival. Don't miss this legendary tenth edition of Amnesia.

Death Grips

Fans will recall the infamous breakup letter that announced "Death Grips is over" in 2014, but they're back already this year with new album Powers That B and a batch of North American tour dates. The experimental hip-hop duo claim to have achieved a new level of greatness, which they will bring to Vancouver and Toronto during their world tour. Be present to witness the band's rebirth when they play Vancouver this weekend.

Luminato Festival

Luminato is a celebration and showcase of Toronto's diverse culture and abundant talent, featuring visual arts, literature, speeches, dance, film, food, theatre and, of course, music. Over the course of ten days, the festival will host a variety of musical events: the New Canadian music series will feature acts like the Ascot Royals and Wolf Saga; David Byrne's Contemporary Colours show will boast tUnE-yArDs and St. Vincent; and the Cabaret Series offers performances by Joey Arias and Taylor Mac. There are other events for music lovers, including karaoke backed by an orchestra and a children's concert. Come be inspired by the sounds of Luminato.

MOSO Fest

MOSO Fest is celebrating its fifth anniversary in Saskatoon this week. The milestone will be marked by performances by Deerhoof, Swervedriver, the Wooden Sky, Cancer Bats and Son Lux. The series also includes emerging artists like SMRT, Mute Banshee and T-Rhyme. In addition to the music, MOSO Fest is a platform for influential speakers to provide insight about emerging technology and the future of digital communication. Come out to get connected, educated and entertained.

NXNE

North by Northeast made their first lineup announcement way back in February that included names like Alice Glass, Best Coast, Zola Jesus and the New Pornographers. This set the stage for more announcements, and it grew with the addition of Glass Animals, Real Estate, Ty Dolla $ign, Cold Cave, Jazz Cartier and more. Filmmakers, visual artists, speakers and comedians like Nick Thune and Eric Andre are also part of the program. After months of intense anticipation and preparation, NXNE is releasing its mass of talent and chaos on Toronto. We hope you're ready.

Ottawa Jazz Fest

Ottawa Jazz Festival has made its name on diverse programming that reflects the genre's rich history. This year, the festival lineup includes Pink Martini, the Steve Miller Band, Snarky Puppy, the Joel Plaskett Emergency, Timber Timbre, Huey Lewis and the News and the Roots. The festival is set in the city's scenic outdoors, but the Spin Kitchen Bar invites guests inside to close every evening with the "Late Night Jamming Series," featuring Nick Fraser, John Geggie, Roddy Ellias and other acclaimed musicians. Come explore the dynamic sounds that the festival has to offer from now until the end of the month.

Suuns + Jerusalem In My Heart

After seven days holed up in a studio, Montreal-based artists Suuns and Jerusalem In My Heart emerged with an avant-garde collaborative project that they are prepared to present live. Toronto Jazz Festival

The TD Toronto Jazz Festival hosts over 1,500 musicians in Nathan Phillips Square and approximately 40 other venues throughout the city. A small sampling of these artists include Dumpstaphunk, Booker T. Jones, DJ Frank Phantastic Johnson, Dee Dee & the Dirty Martinis, Jivebombers and more. The city invites you to enjoy ten days of the intricate artform beginning on July 18.

Victoria Jazz Festival
