Suuns and Jerusalem in My Heart Announce Collaborative Album

BY Alex HudsonPublished Jan 21, 2015

Suuns and Jerusalem in My Heart both hail from Montreal, and in the last couple of years, they have played some collaborative shows together. Now, they're kicking their partnership up a notch by releasing a joint album. The self-titled Suuns and Jerusalem in My Heart will be out on April 14 through Secret City Records/Secretly Canadian.

This collaboration dates back to 2012, when Suuns and Jerusalem in My Heart's Radwan Ghazi Moumneh rented out a Montreal studio for a week. After laying down some rough songs, they did some live shows over the next couple of years before eventually polishing the recordings off in 2014.

Moumneh handled tracking, and he and Suuns member Max Henry mixed the results. A press release notes that the seven-song album features "analog synths, Arabic influences and electronic sensibilities."

Ben Shemie of Suuns said in a statement, "It's not a Suuns record, it's not a Jerusalem in My Heart record. It's really a product of five musicians that had spent a lot of time on tour listening to music together."

For a taste of what this sounds like, scroll past the tracklist below to hear "Gazelles in Flight." This moody instrumental begins with a minimal rhythmic clatter before swelling with hypnotic, cyclical synths.
