Suuns Zeroes QC
If Montreal's Suuns set out with the intention of becoming Canada's next big buzz band, they've certainly positioned themselves well. Having signed with Secretly Canadian and gone on tours with the Besnard Lakes and Land of Talk, they have all their ducks in a row to join the ranks of Canada's indie elite. Following the free Zeroes EP, which came out this summer, this debut LP offers up more of the angular dance rock and electro experimentalism that got the group noticed in the first place. The brittle "Armed for Peace" pairs steely electronics with brittle rock-outs, while the desolate "Arena" begins with a celestial synth figure before a straight-ahead beat brings it back down to earth. It's an effectively icy LP, although it lacks an obvious single, which might make it tough for Suuns to win over blog browsers with short attention spans. (Secretly Canadian)
