Les Stroud has given us plenty of tips on how to rough it in nature and weather the elements as the host of the long-running Survivorman, but his accomplishments as a musician have also been well-documented away from the woods.
Now, Stroud will give fans in Toronto a chance to see his songwriting chops live in concert, with a September 19 performance at Hugh's Room Live in the city's West End.
Tickets for the show are available for $30 in advance and $35 at the door (plus taxes and fees). Further information can be found here.
Earlier this month, Stroud released a new version of single "One Giant Farm" with a guest feature from iconic Guns N' Roses six-stringer Slash. A portion of proceeds from the song, which you can hear below, will be donated to environmental organizations Ric O'Barry's Dolphin Project, Sharkwater, and the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society.
After graduating from the Music Industry Arts program at Fanshawe College in London, ON, Stroud played in Toronto new wave outfit New Regime and worked as associate producer at MuchMusic.
As Stroud told Paddler Magazine in 2006, "From age 16 to 25 I was a rock'n'roller, and to support my life as a rocker I got a job in music videos. I started getting coffee, and within a year I had worked my way up to assistant director. I worked on Rush's 'Big Money,' Corey Hart's 'Never Surrender' — all the big Canadian bands."
A first canoe trip on the Temagami River at 25 years old led Stroud to make a career change to become Survivorman, though he didn't leave music entirely.
In addition to solo material and releases as Les Stroud and the Campfire Kings, he has recorded alongside fellow Canadians the Northern Pikes.
