"Auctioneer" (video)

Surinam are gearing up for a raucous record release party tonight (July 21), and to get the celebratory ball rolling, Exclaim! is giving you the first look at the Toronto post-punks' brand new video for "Auctioneer."

The track comes off their sophomore LP Would We Still Be Laughing, which was recorded with Kyle Knapp in Toronto last fall. According to a press release, it blends the "tough, dissonant riffage" and "unearthly noise guitar freakouts" of William Mason with the super tight rhythm section of bassist Corey Wells and drummer Adam McGillivray, the powerful and erratic vocals of Matt Mason, and the keyboard prowess of Ami Spears — making for a sound that's "all steak, fuck the sizzle."

Each of those elements is exemplified on "Auctioneer," and the accompanying video is just as gripping. It depicts a dark world of underground auctions, in which the items up for bid are acquired by pretty grisly means.

The aforementioned release show goes down tonight at the Owl's Club in Toronto with special guests Soupcans and Frustrations. It will mark the official release of Would We Still Be Laughing, which is now out digitally on Raw Materials.
