Luminato will be returning to Toronto this summer, and with it comes the return of Unsound Toronto. The festival within a festival is set to take over the Hearn Generating Station on the city's waterfront on June 10 and 11 — and the first performer has just been announced.
Leading off a list of yet-to-be-revealed artists, Sunn O))) have been announced as the headliners for the 2016 edition of Unsound Toronto. The drone metal outfit most recently released Kannon late last year, and this will mark the band's first Canadian show in more than a decade.
Organizers have issued a warning to "expect the unexpected," promising to deliver an eclectic collection of contrasting genres and styles within the forthcoming lineup. Tickets for each evening's performances will run you $25, and you can find full information about the event over here.
UPDATE (02/18, 2:30 p.m.): Tim Hecker has now also been confirmed to play Unsound Toronto on June 11.
Unsound Toronto aims to create "a journey including ambient soundscapes, noise, drone metal, pounding techno and the most contemporary fractured club music," promising attendees a unique festival-going experience. Last year's event featured a heavily scented headlining performance from Tim Hecker.
Stay tuned for more details about upcoming Unsound Toronto performances in conjunction with this year's Luminato programming.
