Sunn O))) Dig Up New Rehearsal Session for 'LA REH 012'

BY Gregory AdamsPublished Dec 30, 2013

As previously reported, Sunn 0))) have their collaborative Terrestrials release with Ulver coming out in February, but ahead of that, the cloaked outfit will issue a new record on their own.

According to a press release, the new release captures a rehearsal demo called LA REH 012, which is touted as "the latest grimm incarnate from the disgusting duo." Set to ship around January 20, the record is a split release between the band's Greg Anderson's Southern Lord imprint and Stephen O'Malley's Ideologic Organ.

The release was recorded in 2012 in Los Angeles, mixed in Paris this year and is apparently full of "hellish riff-mangling." Sound samples have not yet arrived, but you will find the tracklisting down below. As you'll see, each side of the vinyl clocks in at about 20 minutes.

The record, whose cover you'll find up above, is limited to 1,500 vinyl copies, which are currently selling at $17.77 over here. The price goes up to an even $20 on January 14. A digital bundle can also be pre-ordered on Bandcamp.

LA REH 012 follows Sunn 0)))'s previous rehearsal demo REHEARSAL DEMO NOV 11 2011, which was released in 2012.

As for Terrestrials, it drops February 4 through Southern Lord. It had previously been noted that the record features "a trio of movements which flow like magma beneath the Earth's crust, sonically uninhibited, unpredictably cosmic, haunting and stirring, yet simultaneously ceremonious and beautiful." You'll find an excerpt of its "Eternal Return" down below.

LA REH 012:

1. Last One / Valentine's Day (18:02)

2. Invisible / Sleeper (20:26)
