Sunfields Reveal 'Habitat'

BY Alex HudsonPublished Apr 21, 2014

Montreal's Sunfields started putting together the first mixes for their sophomore album way back in 2012, and now it's finally done. Habitat is due out on May 27 through Exit Sign Music.

The collection was recorded at Breakglass Studios with Jace Lasek and at the band's own Field Recordings studio. It was mixed by Graeme Humphrey (Simple Plan, Eight and a Half).

The band recorded more than 22 songs in total, but they eventually cut it down to a single record. A press release notes that songs were "written, re-written and writ again." Following the aforementioned initial mixing, they continued to record and ended up putting together an almost entirely new album.

To hear the results of this lengthy process, stream the track "Ghost," which begins as a restrained acoustic ditty but climaxes with distorted electric fretwork.

Sunfields will be touring Ontario and Quebec this spring. See their schedule below.
