Sundays

'Neverland' (EP stream)

BY Alex HudsonPublished Oct 28, 2014

Shadowy R&B singer Sundays seems to have been boning up on classic literature as of late. She explored Pride and Prejudice on her recent single "Shades of Pemberley," and now that song has re-emerged on the Peter Pan-inspired EP Neverland.

Opener "The Veil" sets an exceptionally dreamy mood, as cavernous, church-like choral harmonies are overlaid with minimal R&B instrumentation. From there, previously released tracks "Theia Mania" and "Shades of Pemberley" are sexy and seductive electronic soul cuts. The EP then ends with the twinkling title track.

In a statement, Sundays said this about the closing song: "'Neverland' is about a daydreamer, a metaphorical expression of her idea of what kind of freedom & luxury a Hollywood-like success would bring. Along the way she beckons her lover to share this dream which is somewhat similar to a childlike depiction of a Peter Pan and Wendy adventure."
