Sun Kil Moon

"Garden of Lavender"

BY Alex HudsonPublished May 15, 2015

There's less than a month to go until the June 2 release of Sun Kil Moon's latest album, Universal Themes, and Mark Kozelek has given us another taste of what's in store by sharing the track "Garden of Lavender."

Compared with the previously shared "Ali/Spinks 2," this tune is more along the line of Benji's acoustic dirges. It's a sprawling, 10-minute folk song that highlights Kozelek's nylon-string strums and vivid poetry, although the arrangement gets a little more ornate and atmospheric as it goes on. Unexpectly, the song changes completely seven and a half minutes in.
