Sumac Unveil 'Before You I Appear' Remix EP

BY Gregory AdamsPublished Sep 26, 2016

Get ready to let metal troupe Sumac's What One Becomes melt your mind in a whole new way. Tracks from the psychedelic gloom trio's latest long-player have been re-envisioned for a new remix collection titled Before You I Appear.

The 12-inch sees release December 9 via Thrill Jockey. Material from the original album has been manipulated by the likes of Samuel Kerridge, Bleed Turquoise (a.k.a. Emptyset's James Ginzburg ), Kevin Drumm and Japanese outfit Endon. The four-song set is said to yield everything from "psych-noise blowouts" to "subtly curdled drones."

A press release explains, "Though stylistically differentiated from the source material, all four tracks on Before You I Appear posses a parallel predilection for combining combustible atmospherics and emotionally penetrative musical manoeuvre."

A hammered-down, '70s prog-synth-slathered redo of "Clutch of Oblivion" prepped by Bleed Turquoise can be streamed down below. There, you'll also find the tracklisting info for Before You I Appear and info on a few upcoming Sumac shows.

Before You I Appear:

1. Rigid Oblivion (Samuel Kerridge Remix)
2. Clutch of Oblivion (Bleed Turquoise Remix)
