Sumac is a collaborative project between former Isis member Aaron Turner, Dave Grohl's favourite drummer, Baptists' Nick Yacyshyn and Brian Cook (Russian Circle, Botch). They released their debut album The Deal earlier this year, and now they're already back in the studio.
While The Deal was recorded by Mell Dettmer and mixed by Converge's Kurt Ballou, the second LP will see Ballou take a more prominent approach as producer and engineer.
It's not being recorded at Ballou's Godcity studio in Salem, MA, however. Interestingly enough, the album is being tracked at The Unknown — a studio co-owned by Mount Eerie's Phil Elverum in Anacortes, WA. Here's hoping Phil Elverum makes an appearance on the forthcoming second Sumac album.
Stay tuned for more information on the release as it becomes available.
