Sufjan Stevens, Bryce Dessner, Nico Muhly and James McAlister are at last giving us their cosmos-reaching Planetarium project. So if you've been itching to hear this interstellar bit of musical astronomy for yourself, you can now have at it.
The album was initially described as "part rock odyssey, part electronic experiment, part classical opus," taking listeners on a sonic journey that explores "mythology, astrology, science, astronomy and the intricacies of human consciousness."
Add in the fact that the album has been in the works since 2011, when Muhly was commissioned to create for Dutch concert hall Muziekgebouw Eindhoven, and it's easy to see that the album is more than a little ambitious.
