Published Nov 07, 2012Unless you've been living under a particularly big rock, you probably know that yesterday (November 6) was the American presidential election. To acknowledge the big event, banjo-toting songwriter Sufjan Stevens shared his own version of "The Star-Spangled Banner."
This five-minute version of the anthem takes significant liberties with the arrangement, as it moves from grand choral sections to fractured guitar freak-outs to quiet folk balladry. Listen below.
Also below is Sufjan's latest take on "Angels We Have Heard on High," which differs significantly from the version he's released already (and bears only a passing resemblance to the carol you're familiar with). This is presumably one of the two versions of the song that appear on the the Christmas box set Silver & Gold, due on November 13 through Asthmatic Kitty.
