Sufjan Stevens

'Carrie & Lowell' (album stream)

BY Sarah MurphyPublished Mar 23, 2015

Experimental troubadour Sufjan Stevens is set to release his latest record Carrie & Lowell on March 31 via Asthmatic Kitty, but the label is streaming the record a week in advance.

We've already heard "No Shade in the Shadow of the Cross," "Should Have Known Better" and the album's title track, but now you can hear the album in its entirety.

The LP is named after Stevens' mother and stepfather and hears the singer-songwriter returning to his folk roots. Across the 11-song collection of soft-sounding, emotionally-charged songs, he explores "life and death, love and loss, and the artist's struggle to make sense of the beauty and ugliness of love."

The folks at Asthmatic Kitty recommend finding a chunk of distraction-free time to fully immerse yourself in the record. So put your phone away, put those headphones on, get comfortable and give Carrie & Lowell a listen below.
