Suburban Scum Ultimate Annihilation

Suburban Scum Ultimate Annihilation

With their debut full-length Ultimate Annihilation, Suburban Scum build on the strong parts of their sound they've honed over the course of numerous previous splits and EPs. The New Jersey unit don't stray too far out of their comfort zone, but this punchy, stalwart set of songs is their tightest and most cohesive release yet.

The quality of the production, courtesy of Will Putney, lends a great deal to the delivery of many a chunky, metallic breakdown and mosh call on the record, particularly on the crisp, devastating title track. The highlight of the record comes about halfway into the set, in the form of the complex drum sequences and pedaling verse riffs of "Love and Hate." Justice Tripp of Angel Du$t and Trapped Under Ice makes an appearance as well, adding his signature snarl, and all the weight and presence that comes with it, into the mix.

Aside from this, Suburban Scum don't have many other surprises for listeners here, but their execution and energy are consistent throughout Ultimate Annihilation, a no frills hardcore assault that delivers exactly what it promises. (Flat Spot Records)
