The Motions

BY Ariana RockPublished Aug 1, 2006

This is ska. I know you might have thought you read the epitaph long ago, but much like many fans still believe Elvis is alive, ska’s still not dead! Luckily, these boys have melded the familiar ska sound together with a punk rock/reggae vibe sprinkled in, so there’s this mix that just kills on certain tracks. The title track is just a complete standout track and is reminiscent of Mest with a cooler style and a laidback attitude, but they also do a ska’d up cover of Rancid’s "Tattoo,” which comes together to really funk up the song with some cheeky attitude. It’s a sunny, happy, energetic album with a rock flair to make a modern sounding ska sound that will live on.
