Virtually last on the news networks that you'd call "cool," CNN has nonetheless struck a deal with both Sub Pop and Vice Records to make exclusive online documentary series with both labels.

The former will present Indie Asia: On Tour with Handsome Furs, which will follow husband and wife Dan Boeckner and Alexei Perry across Asia, through China, Hong Kong, Vietnam and Thailand. According to Sub Pop, "They took two Flip cams with them on this tour and came up with some super cool stuff. This band is completely based, aesthetically and otherwise, on travelling, on absorbing places and regurgitating them in music, so it's little surprise that they made such excellent travelogues."

New episodes of the show will appear regularly here, starting today (January 21).

Vice's set of documentaries will be less musically focused, and will start with a series called The Vice Guide to Liberia, which features Vice founder Shane Smith as he documents the daily life of soldiers, citizens, and others living in war-ravaged Liberia.

The first episode of the series is viewable here, but Vice is up to episode three, which is viewable here.

In a statement about the partnership, Smith said, "In a world of hyper-partisan opinion-led 'news,' CNN's credibility and reach put it in a class by itself."

Meanwhile, Vice's video site, VBS.tv, calls itself "the internet's greatest cavalcade of music, human misery, and tits."
