This year's Record Store Day plans are already coming together, and the lineup of exclusive new releases just got even better, as iconic indie label Sub Pop Records has detailed its plans for the annual event.
A press release from the imprint confirms that four limited-edition vinyl records will be coming to indie stores on April 19. These are:
● Mudhoney - On Top: KEXP Presents Mudhoney Live on Top of the Space Needle, a live LP recorded for Sub Pop's 25th anniversary in 2013. Only about 13 people attended the performance due to space restrictions, and it was broadcast by KEXP. This album preserves that recording with 2,700 copies.
● The Notwist - Run Run Run, a 12-inch featuring the track "Run Run Run" from the band's album Close to the Glass. Limited to 1,900 copies, it includes three extra tracks: two remixes of "Run Run Run," plus a new song. A press release notes, "Both sides of the record feature a special double groove, with each parallel groove containing a different song."
● Pissed Jeans - The Very Best of Sub Pop 2009-2013: Live at the BBC, a 12-inch EP that brings together four live-in-studio cuts ("Romanticize Me," "False Jesii Pt. 2," "Cafeteria Food," "Teenage Adult"). It's limited to 3,000 copies.
● Chad VanGaalen - I Want You Back, which consists of four brand new tracks ("I Want You Back," "Candle," "It Must Be Alright," "She Calls for Me") from the songwriter's vaults pressed on a 7-inch. None of them appear on his forthcoming album Shrink Dust. The artwork is by VanGaalen himself, and the package is limited to 2,300 copies.
Of course, this is just a fraction of the new releases that will be coming our way on Record Store Day. See the ever-growing list of exclusives here.
