Stuart Murdoch's long-in-the-works film God Help the Girl has already spawned a 2009 album, but with the film finally set to receive a wide release later this summer, it's now getting a soundtrack as well. The God Help the Girl: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack will be out in North America on September 2 (August 18 in the UK) through Milan Records.
Much of the 28-song collection consists of re-recorded or remixed tracks from the prior God Help the Girl album (plus the Stills EP) as sung by the film's cast. A new version of Belle and Sebastian's song "Dress Up in You" appears here, as does a version of their instrumental "Fuck This Shit" (from their Storytelling soundtrack), and there are also tracks of dialogue from the movie.
Pitchfork notes that three of the songs are new originals from Murdoch: "Pretty When the Wind Blows," "I Dumped You First" and "I'm Not Rich."
