The Strokes' Nikolai Fraiture Unveils New Side-project, Nickel Eye

Once again, another Strokes lad is stepping out on his own. Bassist Nikolai Fraiture has announced that his new solo project Nickel Eye will be releasing their debut full-length next year. Titled The Time of the Assassins, the Nickel Eye album will hit shops on January 27 courtesy of the folks over at Rykodisc, who describe the album as "an evocative solo album filled with great songs and strong performances.”

Fraiture laid down the album with the help of London-based trio and one-time Mo’ Wax stars South, along with a few other unnamed "special guests.” Nickel Eye have yet to release the record’s tracklisting but they do have a handful of live dates this week at CMJ, and plan to launch a full-fledged tour in the coming month with South serving as Fraiture’s backing band.

In case you were keeping track, Fraiture marks the fourth Stroke to pursue, well, different strokes, following Albert Hammond Jr., Fabrizio Moretti’s band Little Joy and Julian Casablancas’ solo work with Pharrell and Santogold.
