Published Sep 29, 2009Starting off as a rumour on Gawker, it looks as if Strokes guitarist Albert Hammond Jr. has indeed checked into a rehab clinic in New York. Allegedly, Hammond's substance abuse issues caused the band to take a break from working on their fourth LP while he sought treatment.
The details are still a little sketchy, but Consequence of Sound points to a quote from the Daily Mail that suggests Hammond got in a fight with his girlfriend, model Agyness Deyn, and then hit the narcotics pretty hard. A source told the paper that "He's really cut up and his band mates checked him into rehab last week."
Whether or not this "source" was reliable is uncertain, but if the Strokes need a break from recording for their guitarist to recover, we're totally okay with that. At least we have that Julian Casablancas solo LP to tide us over.
