Published Jun 03, 2014Following in the footsteps of Flight of the Conchords, Streets of Laredo are the latest folk act to strike it big by moving from New Zealand to Brooklyn. Far from a joke band, however, the group have just struck a worldwide deal with Dine Alone Records.
Streets of Laredo, who cite Father John Misty and the Butler brothers as sonic touchstones, will release Lonsdale Line, their first EP for the label, digitally on June 10, with a full-length set to arrive in the fall. For now, you can watch the video for the EP's title track at the bottom of the page.
As a press release explains, Streets of Laredo "gelled around the idea of a travelling family band playing unruly singalong tunes with whatever instruments were at hand" and have since become "known for their high-energy, mesmerizing stage show and a sound that is a seamless blend of timeless jangly folk and foot-stomping pop."
For a taste of the band's music, catch them on a North American tour this summer. The run of shows includes two Canadian stops, with the group appearing in Montreal and Toronto on June 7 and 8, respectively.
