Stream Conor Oberst's New 'Ruminations' Solo Album

BY Sarah MurphyPublished Sep 29, 2016

Conor Oberst announced that his latest solo offering would arrive this fall under the title Ruminations, and while he hasn't shared much in the way of teasers leading up to the release, the full album is now online for your listening pleasure.

As previously reported, the new record was inspired by the enduring another "paralyzing" Omaha winter, inspiring the singer-songwriter to record his freshly written material quickly and simply.

"I wasn't expecting to write a record," he said. "I honestly wasn't expecting to do much of anything. Winter in Omaha can have a paralyzing effect on a person but in this case it worked in my favor. I was just staying up late every night playing piano and watching the snow pile up outside the window. Next thing I knew I had burned through all the firewood in the garage and had more than enough songs for a record. I recorded them quick to get them down but then it just felt right to leave them alone."

The result is a stripped down, piano-driven set of 10 songs, and you can hear them for yourself right now. Ruminations is officially out on October 14 through Nonesuch Records, but you can give it an early listen via NPR in the player below.
